Editorial Reviews
Review
""As parents, it’s important for us to talk to our kids about tough topics. If we don't influence them, someone else will. Discussing death has to be one of the most heartbreaking and difficult topics to discuss. Luckily, Angel Birthdays helps you have a productive conversation without it being depressing and awkward.""--Josh Shipp, Teen Behavior Expert
“A lovely story that fills the empty places in the heart of young children and provides activities for families to heal together.” --Deborah Tillman, Supernanny on Lifetime TV
""Erin Garay offers a guiding light to help parents and children alike walk through the process of loss without trivializing or denying. . . . [She] tackles the difficult and common questions that children have regarding death. The fear that they will die or their parent will die can create anxiety in little ones. . . . This action-based approach is good for child and adult alike and unites the family in this major life adjustment. Angel Birthdays is a great resource for a therapist and a gift to our children."" —Suzanne Hughes, Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Therapist Magazine

It can be easily adapted to any loss (a parent, a sibling, a dear friend, a grandparent and even a pet). The illustration is gorgeous. Overall, it is a great tool to help process a loss and remember the person forever

- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2018Having a passion for children’s literature I was excited to see a book dealing with grief in a kid friendly way. I was excited to see a book looking at celebrating a life instead of simply missing the life. What I found in this book was a super cheesy plot with horribly forced rhyming and awful illustrations. This entire book lacks integrity and credibility. Upon receiving it I know I can not read it to my 6 and 8 year old sons b/c they will see right through it. When dealing with true, deep, raw grief this is not the book to go to.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2017I intend to recommend this book to many of my friends and colleagues in the funeral profession as a resource for the families we serve. I'm with Daniela: "Thank you, thank you, thank you," Erin and Kristan; together you’ve created something wonderful.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2014This book is amazing! I struggled with how to explain the loss of a grandparent to my young kids. I got this book and the kids immediately took to it. The growth chart was especially helpful. This book has made it easier to celebrate the life rather than grieve over it. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to Erin Garay for writing this book. I bought 3 more copies to have on hand to give and also to give to family members.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2014I bought 2, one for each of my grandchildren. Death is a difficult subject for most people, but for children the loss of a loved one can be very confusing and traumatic. Enabling them to express the joy of having had a loved one in their life and sharing the feelings that this special person and their memories are always within them is very important for children and adults alike. It is a wonderful book and is certainly a great gift.
